Dear University of Miami Community,

In June President Frenk invited the University community to review eight draft Roadmap Initiatives, which chart bold opportunities for UM’s next century. Thank you for the comments and questions you have shared so far!

This week we highlight the eighth and final initiative, Culture of Belonging, which explores strategies to deepen a campus environment where all members of the University community feel valued and can add value. The draft proposals describe practical steps to foster belonging within existing initiatives and University groups, measure progress and develop programs for continuous improvement, and advance a body of scholarship on building a culture of belonging.

This initiative will impact every member of our community, so your feedback is important.

  • What practical ways can we encourage a culture of belonging on UM campuses?
  • How can we creatively measure our progress on increasing a sense of belonging?

We welcome your ideas and questions on the Roadmap Initiative website, through the hashtag #UMRoadmap, or via email.

You also can join us here for an interactive web chat on Wednesday, August 24, at 1 p.m., to discuss all of the Roadmap Initiatives. You can ask questions live or submit them in advance at UMRoadmap@miami.edu.

Thank you for helping to build the future of the University of Miami.

Office of the President

About the Draft Roadmap Initiatives

Following President Frenk’s inauguration, small working groups were launched to inform the Roadmap to Our New Century and explore ways the University of Miami could foster transformation, connection, and reinvention as an institution. The eight draft Roadmap Initiatives are now open to the University community for discussion, debate, and refinement. In the fall of 2016 a series of meetings will be held across the University to share the feedback we have received and discuss the path toward implementation. We welcome comments on any of the Roadmap Initiatives at any time through the website, by using #UMRoadmap on social media, or via email.
